This is one of the coolest sounding mutes, either stem in or stem out. Hear it and learn the difference between the two. The mute I'm using in the vid is a bubble mute made by Jo-Ral. The tune I played is Dizzy Gillespie's "Birk's Works," a minor 12-bar blues in concert F minor(trumpet G minor).

  • yeah, sorry about that. hope to make a new improved version soon....

  • Hi, can you tell me what i have to write into my score if I want the player to cover and uncover the mute on a single mute that is similar to a glissando, just that it is not about pitch but about timbre. Is there a certain symbol or abbreviation like pizz, or col legno, or con sord. ?

  • @FilmComposeRaHoppe

Yeah, con sordino is the Itialian (senza sordino is to remove the mute), but this often refers in classical music to the straight mute. If you're using a different type, state it. For example: con sordino (Harmon mute)

  • sweet! thanks. glad it helped.

  • in our band concert, during the mute solo, all of our trumpet's mutes fell out at the same time- WE ALL STARTED LAUGHING SO HARD.

but thanks for the "sticky" mute advice. i'll consider it for our next concert :D

Interesting. Can you explain? Personally, I think this mute without the stem is the most unique sound of all the mutes.
