Interesting. Can you explain? Personally, I think this mute without the stem is the most unique sound of all the mutes.

Hi, can you tell me what i have to write into my score if I want the player to cover and uncover the mute on a single mute that is similar to a glissando, just that it is not about pitch but about timbre. Is there a certain symbol or abbreviation like pizz, or col legno, or con sord. ?

Yeah, con sordino is the Itialian (senza sordino is to remove the mute), but this often refers in classical music to the straight mute. If you're using a different type, state it. For example: con sordino (Harmon mute)

in our band concert, during the mute solo, all of our trumpet's mutes fell out at the same time- WE ALL STARTED LAUGHING SO HARD.
but thanks for the "sticky" mute advice. i'll consider it for our next concert :D
