Since I was a teen, I've loved this song. Now it means even more. My birthday is in October and I lost my mother to breast cancer the day after my birthday this year. October is a wistful month full of joy and sorrow...but I hate to see it go.

Johnnie Mercer's wife found these lyrics after he passed. They were complete, but with no melody, so she asked Barry to write a melody for these prosaic words. How beautiful...sheer poetry, and now a melody which is their equal. Two great tallents together thanks to Johhny Mercer's wife.
