  • what would plato say about our incarcerating disobedient individuals in order to rehabilitate them, where could i find information on this subject

  • @RCArczi In general, especially with young offenders, I would say that the goal of judicial punishment should be rehabilitation, rather than merely revenge or restitution. However, with hardened criminals, murderers, rapists, one must also consider the safety of society and the concept of paying for one's crimes. You can find these discussed in any textbook on criminology. For a brief introduction, you can even check out "Criminology for Dummies" which you can find in a book store or on line.

  • I believe plato said justice means "to give what is due". The problem is how do we identify what someone is "due" something and define how much someone is "due".

Also jobs maybe benefits but they don't grow on trees. Jobs are created by individuals taking risks and investing in businesses (often at great personal cost).

  • You are correct about jobs not growing on trees. The fact that people start businesses at great personal risk (which is a burden) therefore entitles them to the profits that the company makes (benefits), under a capitalist, or merit-based system. If you watch my second video "Ethics 8 Distributive Justice," you'll see that I talk in greater detail about the "material" principles of distributive justice, and what it is that separates, for example, capitalism from socialism.

  • Plato compared man with the state. Justice is there where the soul is ordent: the 'reason' must control desire or lust, with the help of the wil. Only then a man or state can be healthy or justified. Plato said that only those who have seen the real thruth, the transcendent world, know what justice is. Those who have left the cave. Justice is one the idees of the real thruth.

Sorry for my language, since english is not my native language and it is terribly hard to translate.
