Beautiful arrangement recorded by BYU Vocal Point acappella. This compilation of photos, sculpture, and painting shows the journey "ever upward" to Jesus Christ. Excelsior!

  • In articulo mortis (in the moment of death)

caelitus mihi vires (my strength is from heaven)

deo adjuvante, non timendum (God helps, there's nothing to fear)

    in perpetuum (forever)

dirige nos domine (Direct us, Lord)

ad agusta per angusta (to great heights by narrow paths)

sic itur ad astra (such is the route to the stars)

    excelsior! (Ever upward!)

  • Please stop taking away from the spirit from this amazing song by arguing. Worship how you will, and leave others alone. Obviously you cannot change another's opinion by commenting on a video on youtube, so I would appreciate if you all would stop. Jesus Christ never attacked others, He only loved. Quite talking and start acting like Him if you really want to be nearer to God. Have a nice day.

  • Epic...

  • wow ...echt Klasse **********.........

  • WOW! 2:56 is intense! These guys are awesome

  • I can't decide if I like this overall. Cool harmonies, of course - vocal point is great - but the tempo seemed a bit off at times. I often feel that way with a capella. That said, I don't even know how the original hymn goes. The picture at the end of this is awkward.

  • You don't have to be Christian to enjoy this.

  • seems to me like Christ attacked the moneychangers with a whip if i'm not mistaken.

  • And let's not forget the harmony starting at 1:40. Compilation is amazing.

  • The arrangement of this song is incredible. Congratulations to whoever was involved with the creation of this. From the beginning, is constantly moving. And within the moving music, it touches every emotional stem in my body. There is nothing more appreciative than music that is moving and also emotional. There is music that just seems at a stand still, a lot with post-modernism and minimalism. This is just brilliant.

    This deserves an award.

  • Apparently when Youtube doesn't want to let you post the words to a song in the right order, they want to mark it as spam. :(

  • This version rearranges the words of the original hymn. Although the Latin is beautiful, it does make some of the English words hard to understand. Per request, here are the English words to this version (without the cooperation of YouTube *sigh*):

Nearer my God to thee, nearer to thee.

E’en (even) though it be a cross that raiseth me.
