well now, I played the campaign more than 7-8 times (I had nutting to do) and i played this misson more than 100 times (retry-etc) and i found out that the reason of plato's "parking" is that the solar panel is fully damaged,(note that it is very fragile), i kept coliding with the shivans and the plato DID go into subspace - i was very surprised myself ...

Fury barrages take down the shivans pretty well.

Indeed, I destroyed a few of the Shivans and had to allow the rest to destroy the Plato so that the mission would end. The Plato cannot jump; it' just not in the coding.

You can also remove the first weapons and start without. Then call support ship and you will get the avenger. :)

I used to HATE this mission. Like how the GTA has crappy weapons that can't penetrate the Shivan shields. I wonder if it's possible to lure the Shivans off or save the whole Plato.

The fact that they keep mentioning the escape pod hints that it WILL be used. It also seems like a very small escort for such a vital ship.

theres an easier way to destroy the shivans in this mission.

your wingmates can target the shivans so all you have to do is target your wingmate, and then press 'j' to target the ship that they are targeting then order you squad to destroy the shivan
