There are 576 islands in the group, 26 of which are inhabited. The nearest point of the mainland, and 547 km from the northern extremity of Sumatra. The length of the island chain is 352 km and its greatest width is 51 km. The total land area of the Andamans is 6408 square kilometre|km².

Andamans is the only place in India with an active volcano. Plans are afoot to make volcano tourism popular.

  • Hi, Thanks. The music is from album "Free Your Mind" by L. Subramaniam, from track 3 "Hamsadwani". It's well obvious that it is Taanam part of the Raaga.

  • GREAT PLACE

  • @666vicc666 are there any hotels in these Islands.

  • @zinlinoo Have you ever heard of Myanmar government or its people visiting these islands once in the past? These atolls have served the temporary menial labor requirements of other powers in the ancient times like the Chinese and the Japanese. Then India did not have any sea-going navies. When the British captured the Indian sea lanes they showed an interest in the islands but again just for their labor needs. Modern India won't sit idle now when its territories are threatened.

  • it's so cool music...Jai Hind

  • @shtdafkkup hi mr, i live in sweden i would love to visit these islands, and will hopefully do that the next coming years. i mostly want to visit nicobar islands because of some birds that are only endemic to great nicobar and little nicobar. is it true that nicobar islands are closed for tourism? do you know any persons living there? i would really love to see some pictures of some birds living there, especially the nicobar parakeet. hope to hear from u soon

  • ''Travelers to the Andaman Islands should be aware that there have been 24 reports of salt-water crocodile attacks during the past 25 years in the Islands. There have been four fatalities, including a U.S. citizen tourist in April 2010. Travelers are encouraged to seek advice from local residents about dangerous sea life before swimming and should keep a safe distance from all animals at all times.'' source: travel.state.gov
