  • what's better, rit or tulip permanent fabric dye?

  • @DrewSoNEEDS

i would say the TULIP has a nicer and fuller color outcome...

  • do you pre soak your shirts in soda ash?

what are your tips on gettin more color onto the shirt? everytime i make tie dye i always get alot of white spots :/ and last questions...how long can you keep the dye unused thats already mixed?

  • @mihimeeproductions

I do pre soak in soda ash - for these Procion dyes. Some dyes do not need that though...

Sometimes white areas are just too thick of a fold, or the dye just did not reach deeply enough.

Maybe slow down the apllicatioin and allow more time to soak into deep layers, or re-apply over that area a second time.

I keep mine up on a rack, so if I soak too much, it drips off and does not pool.

  • @WolfEchoes

Also, the Procion dye I would only keep 24 hours or so...

As soon as the soda ash goes in, they begin to break down.

RIT and other types may last longer - but fresh is always brightest.

I always waste a bit of dye in the end - but I try to have "flag" material around just to use up the extra...

  • nice demonstration. I use the vat cooking method, both tulip, and rit tyes, but will go to procion dyes this summer since my little business is now demanding Teeshirts. I am wondering how the procion dyes would be for vat dying. I do other clothes and items that will still be dyed with my grocery store dyes, but preferre vat dying to using the squeeze bottles.

  • @bassbugg7

These Procion dyes should work great in the vat.

You will find the color way brighter and deeper than RIT or Dylon, and a bit better than Tulip. A few more ingredients with Procion - but very well worth the effort.

    Great luck to you!

  • Id use rit dye but they look pastel, dont dig it. i used kit dye and very good results came of it. i cant afford procion and i know that because i cant even afford kit dye. thats what draws me to rit. but maybe not now unless i start liking pastel tie dyes. thanks for vid man!

  • Wow I thought i was doin. It wrong cause I'm a beginner but in 2 weeks time I've been doing advanced folds and my shirts look nice and a have a tie die lab with all the esstentials but any way, I use rit dye as well and I kind of get a weird kinda of pastel water color look just like yours there but some are more vibrant but I wonder why rit die makes such watercolor looking colors

  • hello again, I wanted to let you know, I use a hot method with rit dyes. soak dyables in borax and water for a few hours. I soak for at least a day. I use 2-3 packets, salt, 1 gallon of water, heat to steaming do dip method tiedying. set in cold water, untie rinse. I get very bright sharp tied and dyed that doesnt fade terribly fast. good for rayon, cotton, and cotton hemp. love the procion dyes, but some projects I still use the rit dyes. thanx for the video
