This segment describes the wetland in mid to late summer. Focus is on plant species including many invasives that crowd out native plants. These include Purple Loosestrife, Queen Anne's Lace, Common Mullein, Spotted Knapweed. Native plants include Blue Flag, Swamp Rose Mallow, Pickerelweed, and Cardinal Flower.
Excerpted from the public television documentary 'River of Rushes: Upstate New York's Montezuma Wetlands' produced and narrated by Michael S. Ameigh.

  • Thanks again, Tom. I have a brief video I produced last summer for New York Sea Grant and the Ontario Dune Coalition that has a segment on Phragmites Australis that I will soon post to YouTube. I am just now revising it to be a bit longer so that it can air on WCNY. Subscribe to this channel to be alerted when that is posted. Phragmites Australis (common reed) is probably a bigger problem than Loosestrife in most wetland environments. - Mike Ameigh

  • A very good video. What about Phragmites Australis? It's taking over the wetlands around Onondaga Lake.
