I don't really think the social network even came close to deserving an oscar. It wasn't a bad film but it was pretty obvious that it went up for nomination for "political" reasons.
That being said, Jesse Eisenberg did a good job in the movie Zombieland opposite of Woody Harrelson, he definitely has talent, but yeah... this crappy disaster movie wasn't exactly a great showcase for his talent, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

@Dimnexus OK, I understand you

I only saw this movie because I love Disaster films but this one was real disgrace for that genre - horrible acting, directing, dialogues, even editing. Well, the effects were just bad but not awful though. Jesse Eisenberg has some really awesome movies but in this one he showed trashy acting.

@Magnolia296 Comments accepted :) The movie didn't do well, but I won't put down Jesse cause it wasn't his fault & he's a personal friend. Remember this movie was in 2000, a LONG way away from The Social Network. It was also Jesse's first film ever, but as you mentioned there's a lot about it that was weak & for a new film actor to be handed that & trust in a director who is engaged in creating a weak product is a difficult thing. We've all had our laughs since and we've all grown as artists.

@Magnolia296 I always hated the house set. I'm not sure who's decision it was to paint Jesse's room that terrible yellow and the hallway just outside that horrible orangey-red, but yikes. Talk about a bad clash.

@Magnolia296 In further defense of Jesse, not only is he a great guy, but as an actor I was constantly impressed by how professional and "ready" he was. Weak script or not, he was ready to go and learned large chunks of dialogue like that "snaps" He's a smart/talented dude. Takes me longer to learn stuff......like,...waking up, difficult things like that ;)

@Magnolia296 This was definitely meant to be a family film. I remember standing in the editing room & Gary Sandy gave a great take of a line in the jail but added the word "Damn." Someone walked by & said, "well THAT'S gotta go,"..............and the editor had to use a different take without the "swear." Lame. I pretty much knew the outcome of the movie right there. So I also don't blame the editor,...plus she's a huge Sliders fan like me :) Can't hate a chick who's into Sliders :)
