  • if your going without cores (air core) your performance might be improved using ciramic magnets... its counter intuitive but neomags are stronger because they concentrate the magnetic field not because they have a stronger field ... a ceramic type magnet will provide more flux to the entire windings.

  • @helpmonkey Yes, I suppose you can get an equivalent magnetic flux from a ceramic magnet, but you'd need a big one. I've found that the ceramics end up being more expensive. This is supposed to be a low cost project. :-)

  • I really like the serpintine windign idea ... maybe adding a simple bedini SSG as a boost motor could serve as a autostarter for the giromill.

  • @helpmonkey I haven't seen a simple bedini SSG yet. :-)

  • Is this the 100 turns per phase version?

It looks like it spins easily enough, can't wait to see it fly!

  • @skyl4rk Yes, this is the 100 turn version. I think it is going to need a lift-type wing to spin it up fast enough to charge a 12V battery.

  • A other amazing looking generator.

I hope it will fly like crazy.

  • @toncar53 Yes. And on a tiny windturbine like this, every little bit makes a difference. There can't be any cogging if there is no iron. :-)

  • Winding coils/stator without soft iron cores reduces drag, or magnetic lock?

  • @jwwm2 Thanks, there are some more photos on my website. I think I'm going to make another of these when I've ironed out the bugs. I'll be sure and take some video clips during the build.
