This original song by The Troubles is dedictated to the historical perservation of St. Kieran's Church in Heckscherville, County Schuylkill, Pa. in the heart of the coal region. The Friends of St. Kieran's is a non-profit community group devoted to making this perservation a reality.
WALKIN FOR ST. KIERANS
Faith brought them to America
When famine robbed them of their home
Faith taught them with Gods grace and love
Theyd never walk alone
Faith gave them courage to survive
When their last hope had gone
Faith walked with them down troubled paths
Now with Faith, we must walk on
(CHORUS)
Walkin for St. Kierans
And prayin to the Bishop St. John Neumann for deliverance
Of our sweet parish home
Dear Bishop John, and as we walk
We pray to you for Intercession
Please send down a miracle
To change St. Kierans fate
(1)
Dear Bishop St. John Neumann
We know youre not an Irishman
Yet you sought to think like one
And learned to speak our tongue
A miracle you gave to us
Our own dear Church named for St. Kieran
Just like ours left far behind
Back home in Kilkenny
(CHORUS)
(2)
We built our little church by hand
Blood, sweat, and tears
We labored over every brick and stone
Laid strong with Irish pride
Soon came a Rectory for Father
Convent for the Sainted Sisters
Sturdy School for our Valley children
All standing side by side
(CHORUS)
(3)
St. Kierans in the Irish Valley
Twin church to St.John the Baptist
Where at Knock in '79
Our Lady did appear
Perhaps, Good Bishop , in your wisdom
Might you soften up the hearts of
Those whose hands decide the fate
Of our little Church so dear
(CHORUS)
I used to go to St. Kieran's

Any Bishop who could shut St. Kieran's after that performance simply has no heart.
