  • Actually trimming with the dremel allows the groomer to trim without coming in contact with the nerve, unlike an old fashioned nail trimmer, that causes the groomer to guess where the nerve is and possibly slice right into it. When the dremel is felt by the dog, it is obvious to the person holding the foot, and they know exactly where to stop the trimming.

  • Attempt to bite is NOT reinforced by escape, and is NOT reinforced by groomer stopping momentarily to "discipline" so extinction of attempt to bite occurs. Calm behavior is also being reinforced, and reinforcement (praise) stops immediately when attempt to bite behavior is exhibited.

  • Wow that would burn on the nerve of the nails!

  • this is still extinction. basically the behavior you are trying to place on extinction is "attempt to bite" not "successful bite". you can treat both behaviors as independent of each other, but functionally they are probably the same (i.e., attempting to bite in the past likely resulted in escape as well). this can also be looked at as a chain (attempt to bite preceding successful bite). if you place attempts to bite on extinction, naturally, successful bites would also no longer occur.

  • muffin is a weird name for a boy dog but who am I to judge! My boy dog is a toy poodle too and his name is Squiggy!!

  • is that collar thing going to chock her/him
