http://www.jewelheart.org/digital-dharma/ Gelek Rimpoche gives a public talk from Jewel Heart International Headquarters in Ann Arbor for the new year 2011. Happy New Year, everybody. It is now 2011, and that means, well, one year shorter to live in our life. I am sorry. We are running -- not for President -- but towards death. The 7th Dalai Lama said,

From the moment we are born we don't even have a minute to rest.

We are running towards death like a galloping horse.

So it becomes one year shorter to live here, that's it. But at the same time, as I said in my last Sunday talk before the New Year, we look back and appreciate what we have done good in our life, particularly in that year. If we appreciate our good deeds, then that is a very nice way to build positive karma that is doubling. Whatever you have done, you put in efforts and you gain great merit -- whatever that is. To me, it is good deeds, good karma. When you are doing it you put in efforts and when you look back and rejoice in what you did you get double the benefit. I am not just saying that. Buddha said it and so many great master after him, early in India, then later in Tibet. So we can take advantage of it. Whatever we have done good, appreciate it.
