Welcome to Kai Tak !
-
that's not a near crash experience...that's a crosswind landing!!!
-
Actually, that plane almost did crash. I imagine that the pilot had to think quickly and give hard rudder or it would have hit wing first or he could have buckled the landing gear.

let me guess, Kai Tak International (Hong Kong), yeah anything was possible in that airport, this crosswind is just part of a normal day landing, and therefore that is why it got shut down, not to mention the almost 90* turn pilots had to do to line up with runway in such a short time

@zarniize I'm no pilot or aviator, but I'm pretty sure that a crosswind isn't a mistake, haha. It's just a strong wind, part of nature. But I'm also sure that they can be dangerous and either make or break a landing. I assume that landing an aircraft is something that requires 100 percent precision and accuracy; every level of altitude must be planned and executed precisely. I'm sure that a crosswind could really mess that up, not to mention possibly make the plane miss the runway.

@romino707 Is that a common mistake. Or is it somehow dangerous?

64 people wanted the plane to crash

Windshear problem at old Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport was indeed serious...
It didn't almost crash. It's just a crosswind.
