Erich Wolfgang Korngold's "Die stumme Serenade" makes us dash into the swirling quicksand of the glamourous operetta, where a prominent fashion designer's silent declaration of love for a mediocre actress (and our operetta dictatorship's rebellious First Lady) is enough to make people rise in revolution and declare this very fashion icon their new president. Add some assasination attempts, mistaken identities and daring rescue plans - and life becomes just as entertainingly lightweight as Andrea Coclé's dashing evening gowns...
Hendrik Müller directed Korngold's last stage work (and only operetta) in Freiburg in spring 2009 with choreography by Juliane Hollerbach, set and costumes designed by Mira Voigt. Klaus Simon conducts an excellent cast, led by Sarah Wegener, Birger Radde, Anna-Lucia Leone, Sebastian Reich and Frank Buchwald. Due to be released on CD (cpo) in spring 2010.
