Outkast's Triple Grammy Award winning drummer Jef Van Veen seen here in the studio recording "Voice in a Crowd" for the new album "No XCUSES" by song writing partners D-n-K http://www.d-n-k.co.uk
Jef is talking to bass player Julian Bury off screen about what they are going lay down. I hope you enjoy watching this amazing Emmy winning drummer (Class of 3000) in this rarely seen up close and personal footage.
The guitar on this take was played by Geoff Whitehorn (Bad Company, Procol Harem).

  • This is what I loved about Jef when I worked with him

  • Well done Jef!!;)

  • A great drummer and Dutch countryman of Alex Van Halen.

  • Yes I did. In fact, I wrote 'Big Dipper' as a celebration to Jef's talent for playing shuffles. In the middle I wrote an African 12/8 section with quarternotes on the bassdrum against quarternote triplets on the hi hat and snare, etc, etc..

Great fun to record! Are you from Leeds?

  • ..and a fan of Me'shell and Bill Hicks. Wow- it's like looking in the mirror!

    Take care.

  • I played with him after his Jimmy James stint- we had e resident gig in London. Good times- loved your playing- a light touch with some AJ thrown in for good measure. Consider me a fan. Did you play on Jef's demo too (Big Dipper etc)? Thought I recognised your playing :-)

  • I guess Pino is more your style..

  • Yeah, 'I Gotta Know'...that was the title of the song, sixteenth note-feel ballad..man, that seems long ago. I assume you played with him as well...with Jimmy James? If you did, you're a huge Mark Egan fan, haha!

  • Did you play bass with him? I heard some of your demos when I worked with Jef in the late 90s- I loved the stuff you guys did. A song called "I Wanna Know"- loved it.

  • Yeah..this guy rocks..I should know, I tore up some pretty bad grooves with him when we played in a band together in Holland, called Tinsel Town. You should hear him play Porcaro material. Scary!

Great musician, great friend. Miss you much, man!
