The tip has the most flavour, and you should be able to break the asparagus cleanly by hand.
Asparagus can be roasted, normally taking between 5 and 12mins depending on its size.
It can also be steamed, taking between 4 and 5mins again depending on its size.
If boiling try and make sure the asparagus stands up in the pan so that the tips don't get over cooked.
Asparagus is classically served with a hollandaise, but can be equally good dressed with butter and olive oil.
