The questions are not really meant for you! Since you are talking about changing our lives, I am just suggesting ideas to open up our minds to become better human beings.

i liked this video a lot, thanks steve. i like to think that reading is just another medium, like social interaction, like movies, even like drugs, to aid in possibly enhancing, or at least rearranging, one's own perspective of the world/their self. i find that, for me personally, if the material feels related to my own experience in one way or another, its much easier to continue reading and enjoy myself doing so. on the other hand, however, if the material feels unrelated to my personal exp...

Would you consider traveling to Cuba? Would you try learning a foreign language up to a level where you can actually read what the educated in that language read? or at least up to an intermediate level where you can carry on an intelligent conversation? Would you listen to fundamentalist religion followers as well as atheistic philosophers? Would you travel to a third world country and actually become acquainted with the people and not just the beaches?

Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, and William S. Burroughs all wrote books that changed my life. Norman Mailer also wrote so many wonderful books, many that are out of print. But many of them can be found from different used bookstore or online stores that offer used books, well worth any price I've found.

your the man!
hey, I just watched this movie but i could not help myself from feeling like screaming out "we do read!!" :p I think the problem is we have to read too much... every schoolbook, every book we get asigned from school, every test, every lesson on the blackbord... reading is just so connected to school, and school was such a bad part of my life that i that keeps me from wanting to read anny book ever again...I think alot more people would like reading if you did not HAVE TO read in schools..

@maulftw69 There's a big difference between required reading & desired reading.

One more thing I want to add. There is a wonderful video I found on YouTube called "A Conversation with Ray Bradbury". He talks about his life and he goes into detail about how books changed his life. I think it is one of the best videos I have ever seen in my life. I highly recommend it to anyone who reads this comment. Here is the link:

Hi Steve,
is there anywhere on the internet a list of books you would recommend?
If not, could you make such a list of books that did inspire you very much?
It should just take a few minutes to make one, and may be very inspiring for many people. Or maybe you could make a video in which you mention some titles of the most inpiring books you read in your life?
