You should never "retrofit" windows unless they are in brick or stucco (in which you would use a stucco flange). Cut the Siding back, remove the window, cut the interior casing back if needed, Install the new window according to manufactures instructions. Retrofits are just asking for leaks and rely mainly on caulk or other sealent
How not to install or refurbish steel casements. don't use sea curtcher or creature or whatever. He's super a hack. use metal window service. :o). oh make sure the woods in tact or you won't be able to use screws or anything because it's completely rotted. you need new wood. lol. and watch out for any evil lurking in the walls.
