@standardsal Aluminum, which is the normal reflective material, is sensitive to oxygen and a lot of other chemicals in common environments.
Gold is very much less sensitive, especially to oxidation.
The only reason aluminium is the standard material is because it is cheaper for the disc manufacturers.
