The hottest day of the summer of 1935. Thirteen year-old Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) sees her older sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley) strip off her clothes and plunge into the fountain in the garden of their country house. Watching Cecilia is their housekeepers son Robbie Turner (James McAvoy), a childhood friend who, along with Briony's sister, has recently graduated from Cambridge. By the end of the day, the lives of all three will have been changed forever. Robbie and Cecilia will have crossed a boundary they had never before dared to approach and will have become victims of the younger girls scheming imagination.

  • This movie is incredible. Even the trailer makes me tear up. I love that the happy ending that isn't... and Briony's desire for atoning her sins. Amazing book, amazing movie.

  • You are an idiot. It's a lovely book and I can't wait to see the movie. You must stick to reading Danielle Steele and Mary Higgins Clark. Tch.

  • the film differs from the book in many places, but this happens all the time, and compared to some other book-based films it still sticks to the book A LOT.

still an amazing film but not to sure if it shows McEwan's fragmented narrative structure in terms of chronology.

    Brilliant film, even better book.
