Vera Lynn introduces Michael Holliday singing his latest single "Catch Me A Kiss" from 1961. Mike was a very nervous guy when it came to performing live, here he is miming to the song but it's still a great video to see again after 47 years!
A magnificent and remarkably gifted vocalist who was also a pioneer in vocal overdubbing. His early passing was a horrific tragedy. He is greatly, greatly missed.
Spectacular voice! How he had such a depth of timbre and resonance yet such a lightness. Regardless of how mawkish the songs were that he had to perform, the quality of his voice was undiminished. We are so lucky that his recordings were captured, preserved and put on YouTube.
MH's style was like Bing's & Perry Como's because he actually had a similar voice. I hear him speak and his voice is much more naturally resonant and fuller than Bing's without that puffiness that seemed like an affectation with Crosby. MH had an "easier" voice and gravitated to Bing/Perry songs for monetary reasons. I listened to everything he has on youtube and Folks Who Live On The Hill was the only decent song. If he was murdered I bet because he sang too many hokey songs.
I was born in 1951 and my parents had a TV so we probably watched this when I was a boy. His voice made a big impression and I knew nothing of comparisons with Bing Crosby!
