ATK ALV X-1 suborbital rocket destroyed

An Alliant Techsystems (ATK) suborbital rocket carrying two NASA hypersonic experiments was destroyed shortly after liftoff from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia Friday, August 22. No injuries or property damage were immediately reported.

The launch marked the first flight of ATK's ALV-X1 suborbital rocket. On-board the 53-foot tall rocket were NASA's Hypersonic Boundary Layer Transition (HYBOLT) and the Sub-Orbital Aerodynamic Re-entry Experiment (SOAREX) payloads as well as a U.S. Naval Research Laboratory receiver and transmitter intended to help with ocean recovery.

listen here ass i live right by ATK thiokol in Tremonton UT, and almost everyone in the town of tremonton works there. ATK is the one that built the rocket, and i heard that the reason they blew it up is cause the rocket was going off course. It was not caused by ATK but by the nose cone produced by some other company. ATK does make nose cones but they were more expensive than the other guys cone. so NASA opted to go with the sheeper nose cone. i guess NASA learned that ys get what ya pay for...

1. ATK is in fact a tier 2 contractor. Unlike the Boeings and the Northrop Grummans of the world. 2. This is the first full-scale launch ATK has attempted on its "proverbial" own. 3. I have a right to my OPINION that ATK isn't ready to play with the big boys yet. Clearly, it's back to the drawing board for ATK and their contractors and sub-contractors. Clearly your language tells me you don't know what you're talking about.
