What kind of bridge officer would wear that kind of heavy eye makeup? It would actually be a bit embarrassing to walk onto the bridge like that.
I bet alien races thought that Troi was part of the captain's harem when they saw her.
She looked better and much more respectable when she started wearing a uniform.

Marina is great! I was lucky enough to see her 3 times at conventions before the end of the series. All three times she was hilarious and spent a long time with fans signing autographs. I have two images autographed by her (one when she was made up as a Romulan). I miss the series and had hoped they would have made a film after Nemesis.

The coolenst thing that Jellico (Ronny Cox) ever did was getting her to have a Commander's uniform, after that she got a lot of serious stuff to work with in episodes like "Face of the Enemy."
That said that gray outfit she had rocked it, and the maroon one wasn't bad either.

@DEP717 Agreed, made her a more serious character and simply was able to do more in regular uniform. Although she looked great in season 2-5 too.
