***I have swapped the original audio of Bassnectar talking for the most random audio I could find. Unfortunately the copyright holder of the original audio will not allow this video to use it. Considering I contacted them right at the start and offered them any revenue from this video, and this video served as a giant ad for their content, I find this silly and counterproductive. But they apparently want to stifle even non-commercial creative collaboration (I never made a cent from this video) and resorted to threatening to sue me, so this is the result. Sorry***

Bassnectar laying out the dubstep musical family tree.
My first try making kinetic typography (with some help from prezi).

Lorin (Bassnectar) has said he liked the video, but also added this comment: "This was recorded off the cuff back in 2007. If it was today i'd be more clear about certain points. Also I disagree with some of what i said here, but mostly the main point is that Tempo, Beat Structure, and Sound Design all play a part in defining what a genre is. That said, these days the term "dubstep" seems to mean different things to different people. Id rather not even define 'dubstep' - too inflammatory."

  • Although I understand the indignation of "used without my permission", it's a real shame this couldn't get resolved more smartly. It's a recording from 2007 that someone figured out how to turn into 200,000+ YouTube views. Seems like that would be enough stuff with which to figure out a win-win resolution.

  • I just lost respect for bassnectar. Now this video is laling me to sleep.

  • Good ol prezi

  • I can tell you are smart

  • right as I saw the title of this video i instantly thought IMPOSSIBRU!!!

  • You can't watch a 3 min video? Must be hell at school than.

  • bassnectar = hiphop dubstep.

  • Pitoyable cette vidéo. Mais vraiment ridicule.

  • Why? Bassnectar wouldn't be the copyright holder for that interview but it would be the interviewers. Don't go blaming the wrong people now.

  • The original video is an interview by MoBoogie, you can find it on YouTube, and they are claiming copyright infringement. This is clearly a derivative work, so it should actually be protected under fair use. If you wanted to contest this and put the audio back up, you could. The problem is that the copyright system in the US has had the shit lobbied out of it and it's not fair to people who want to make creative things like this. Join the Free Culture movement
