***I have swapped the original audio of Bassnectar talking for the most random audio I could find. Unfortunately the copyright holder of the original audio will not allow this video to use it. Considering I contacted them right at the start and offered them any revenue from this video, and this video served as a giant ad for their content, I find this silly and counterproductive. But they apparently want to stifle even non-commercial creative collaboration (I never made a cent from this video) and resorted to threatening to sue me, so this is the result. Sorry***

Bassnectar laying out the dubstep musical family tree.
My first try making kinetic typography (with some help from prezi).

Lorin (Bassnectar) has said he liked the video, but also added this comment: "This was recorded off the cuff back in 2007. If it was today i'd be more clear about certain points. Also I disagree with some of what i said here, but mostly the main point is that Tempo, Beat Structure, and Sound Design all play a part in defining what a genre is. That said, these days the term "dubstep" seems to mean different things to different people. Id rather not even define 'dubstep' - too inflammatory."

Lorin wants you to put that this was made in 2007, and is not really valid for modern dubstep. please upvote so the uploader sees

  • Years ago I would just explain it as "slow drum and bass", but then most people don't even know what DNB is...then I would just say it's like "club rap without the words".

What bugs me the most is when some people start calling all electronic music dubstep.

  • Shoulda replaced it with music more relevant to the video.

  • @itsmydj The DMCA is not an organization, it's a law -- the Digital Millenium Copyright Act. It's (mostly) well-intentioned, but easily abused. Someone used the law to demand that the audio recording be taken down.

  • the original must be out there somewhere? surely someone ripped the original or perhaps even the original uploader could upload it somewhere ELSE? I really do want to see this vid properly.

  • dont see why he would want to sue. uploader not making money and why wouldnt he want to explain dubstep to all us bassheads.

  • Is there ANYWHERE I can find the audio, I mean damn.

  • moboogie fucking sucks, whoever they are. I hope I never have to know who they are, and they drift through life never having a YouTube video with 200k viewers.

  • @crazyjesse2 Bassnectar had nothing to do with the video being taken down. It was the company that interviewed him (the original audio used in the video was from that interview).

  • Lost respect for bassnectar for this whole threatning to sue thing...

  • hey DCMA.... go fuck yourselves. right in your stupid fucking asses

  • Dubstep is about vibes, melody... not drops.
