The final flight of the Silver Ball, with Yoda as passenger.

Unreasonable Rocket was working to qualify for the Lunar Lander Challenge level 2 prize, and was doing test flights to work on the controls. They were not going well. On this flight it went around the forklift, and the sharp edge of the boom cut through the dynamic ropes and dropped the vehicle on the pad.

The vehicle landed precisely on one leg, which punched through the wall of the aluminum peroxide tank venting the nitrogen pressurant gas. The vehicle was flying with a short load of 85% hydrogen peroxide, and gasoline in the composite tank on top.

Sorry for the failure to track, I was watching the vehicle fly, rather than the camera. Usually their flights are well controlled and I don't have to move the camera around.

  • WTF

  • Are the rocket designs open source, or more precisely, is the control system software open source? It seems this would be a good solution, now that the prize has been awarded
