What happens when you take 2 FD owners, both powered by different engines. lol Just something i made cause i was bored. Editing is a bit messed up but the basic account doesnt make you do much so i was limited with the movie. O well its only for entertainment.

  • "LS1 is the same weight as a rotary engine" THATS BULLSHIT!!! A fully asembled rotary engine with headers only weights 248 pounds , and a aluminum LS1 V8 crate engine with out headers weights 650 pounds . Get your facts straight. Besides a LS1 cannot make more than 750hp because of its aluminum block ; in order to make more hp you need a the Iron block that weights 800 pounds. a rotary engine can make 700 hp ans still weight 300 pounds with turbos. Reliability depends on the owner care.

  • @the13joker No, a fully assembled 13b-rew is not 248 pounds, i have no idea where you get your sources from. An LS1 with the T56 vs a 13b-rew with tranny is about the same, at 650lbs. The LS1 ALONE weighs 430lbs. A rotary alone weighs around 250lbs. Now i dont know of any car that will run without a tranny so your argument is invalid. Both fully dressed is about 650lbs so its the same. The supporting parts to the rotary make up the extra weight. A LOT of cast iron.

  • @theguy1224 Wrong again, a fully assembled 13B N/A is 248lbs(with supporting parts). A 13B-REW (twin turbos, heavy upper manifold) is 350lbs, the tranny is only 112lbs.(Source: Jim Mercer at Racing Beat) Even with the heavier 13b-rew still only 462lbs with tranny. But the LS1 is 481lbs,LS6 is 450lbs,LS3 is 415 lbs(crate engine) even a GNX V6 turbo is 420lbs,and the T56 tranny is 125lbs with bellhousing and w/o oil. Total weight 606lbs. Source: GMPP Catalog and your buddies at LS1 Tech.

  • @the13joker I said fully dressed its about the same. The rotary uses a lot of heavy cast iron material. The LS has an plastic intake for gods sake. And who said the LS cant make 750hp? You're saying the LS guys swap out their blocks to cast iron to achieve 700+hp?? LOL

  • @Brian500R your ignorance is bliss.

  • @Brian500R Thats because when the rotary owners do a swap we do a swap with the Eunos Cosmo 20B Twin Sequential Engines. I'd prefer a high rev engine. Oh and by the way the rotary engine 13B peri port is an engine which AIRPLANES USE not a piston engine. Just throwing that out there! Thats one of the reasons why Rotary Mechanics boost their prices up because technically they are both automotive and aircraft mechanics.

  • @the13joker yeah, too bad the 13b will never be able to match the power and reliability of the ls series of engines.

  • Or you can run ethanol and call it a day... Economically, I still can't say the rotary is the best option when it comes to making big power while being somewhat "street able" because clearly its not. Pick your poison. Its one hell of a ride, I can assure you.

  • Tolerating the power itself is not the 13b's issue, its the little details that go into tuning one that people usually never understand when it comes to Rotary engines, dealing with air/fuel ratios etc. If your engine builder is properly taking care of the "maintenance" especially when it comes to religiously changing old supporting parts (one of the biggest issues when dealing with any FI car) then there should not be an issue. Whether stock or ported, properly built can last a "long time"...

  • new techonology now we have unbreakable seals, once the rotary is built and TUNNED right, ull have a realiable and very fast car.its all about the tune, the rotary motor just dont tolerate what a piston motor will, the rotary engine is an amazing engine, its small but very effective, rotor all the way.i llike all engines but the rotary is just amazing.

  • V8s sound like dump trucks.. and rotarys aren't unreliable they just need to be build by someone who actually has an idea how to do it..

And the LS1 is a boat anchor, how could u possibly say that its the same, let alone the very thought that it could be lighter, hahahahaha

OH, another point, the quickest rotary is now 6.51 @ 217mph.... think about this.... THATS A STOCK MOTOR!! no custom internals, no enlarged cylinders or rotors, just 2 more hols cut... no 6 second V8 can say the same..

  • @mdpalmerNG exactly mike. I love the rotary still but by todays standards, for a street car, it cant match an LS engine, or V8 in general. The v8 does everything for a street car the rotary can NEVER do. Low end torque, 30mpg, reliability, still retain the FD 50/50 and have outstanding aftermarket with little money to make even faster. Dont get me wrong, rotarys are great too if you decide strictly you're gonna give up everything i just mentioned above. Or if you wanna track the car. etc

  • @theguy1224 im not here to bash the LS1 cause its a great engine no doubt!!! Im here to set the record straight , rotaries are lighter than a V8. A LS1 swap its great for those who cant work on rotaries or dont know anyone. Both engines are great ,and both have flaws. It all depends on the care you give to the engine, and knowing its limits. Just because you dont know ,it dont mean its bad.
