this is bad how they let it get sooo overgrown :( just me but seems so disrespectful to families to let it get in this condition.

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in Dallas County. At the time that area was upper class area of town in the early 19th century. Most of the early graves are from upper middle class to rich from what my aunts and uncles told me who lived in that area at the time.

the last time i been to Oakland was in 1997, there was still a caretaker. I asked whatever happened to the individual mausoleum there were plenty of them and awesome looking. I remember many had keys to them... story goes, they also had a power generator so there love could open the vault and see them whenever. The caretaker said they were removed because of vandalism. This place is trully historicaly, some born in late 1700's. My grandfather & his wife is bury there. Thanks for Posting
Thank you so much for posting this! I came across the video by accident, & it has helped me in my 10-yr search for my gr-grandmother's gravesite. The place looks like the background in the photo I have of my gr-grandfather & his 7 children at the mother's fresh grave. Vadie Till Woicinski died in 1918 @ Parkland Hosp., buried in "City Cem." by George Loudermilk, undertaker. Turns out he owned the cem., at that time used (partly) by the city, & the family lived in the neighborhood.

My mother is buried when I was 7 yrs old at Oakland Cemetery and I was appalled at the shape the cemetery in We had to dig her headstone out of the dirt and weeds that covered it. You would think that the city would do a better job at keeping up such a beautiful landmark. in the video that you can't see headstone for the grass and overgrown bushes.

Some of the cemetery is well cared for, other areas are currently in use, and still others are in a state of quiet decay. As far as I know, the cemetery is not owned by the City of Dallas.
