David Kindred: Advice to Sports Journalism Students

Dave Kindred, a long-time sports columnist and author, is a member of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. He is a recipient of the Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement in sports journalism. Kindred has been a sports columnist for The Washington Post, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Louisville Courier-Journal, Sporting News and The National Sports Daily. He is a recipient of the Curt Gowdy Award, given to members of the electronic and print media for outstanding contributions to basketball, in 2000. Kindred has written six sports books, including Around the World in Eighteen Holes, and been named "State Sportswriter of the Year" 15 times, in three different states. In this segment, Kindred advises today's student to master as many media skills as possible.
