A Prayer for Brother Zia Rahman: By Dr. Rafey Habib
Your journey was hardly begun:
Now faded into deep starlight, gone
From this night.
Amid shouting and noise,
Amid screaming, you kept
Your poise, spoke always with
Gentle voice, even to those
Who stood loudly
Opposed.
And now, you have left
Your silence with us,
Your gentle pleading.
Your smile is still with us,
Your dream still needing
Our love.
And you have left,
On earth, the lovely symbol
Of your dream, of the power
Of Faiths when they
Dream together
Salam, shalom, peace
Be upon you, friend of all.
May He in Whose
Infinite call
Our journey begins and ends
Bring you to grace, to gardens
Where rivers flow beneath your feet,
May He make your journey sweet.
