Summary:
This is the first test of my free motion rollers (based on the same concept as the E-Motion rollers by Inside Ride: www.insideride.com).

Results:
Resistance. I have to be in the 53-15 to get any kind of resistance. Look for me to install a mag unit in the future. Note that you CAN fall off if you lean hard enough against the side rollers.

Out of the saddle efforts are still shaky as I'm still getting used to the trainer. Otherwise they work great and greatly reduce the concentration required to ride rollers. I can grab a drink, but I haven't ridden enough to go hands-free yet.

Construction:
Rollers are 4.5" Kreitlers. The wheels are rollerskate wheels (the old school four-wheel type) bought from a nearby skate shop. Frame is made from poplar 1x2's from Home Depot laminated together. Cross axles are threaded 5/16" rods.

Comment if you have any questions.

EDIT: Had to audio swap the Kanye because of copyright issues. Enjoy the random soundtrack.

  • ok well how do you get off?

  • haha the same way you get off any set of rollers--you unclip one foot, let the rollers come to a stop, and then lean toward that foot and put your foot down. it's more of a drop than on your road bike but definitely doable.

  • can you coast on this trainer like the real road, or does it quickly slow down like the trainer you attach your skewer to?

  • I'm not sure any indoor trainer will allow you to coast like the road, but rollers are much, much better than turbo trainers. Especially if you get one with heavy, metal small diameter rollers.

  • Are the wheels in some sort of channel or just on top of the wood? Also, do the wheels move on the axle or with it?

  • Sorry for the late responses all--the wheels are just sitting on top of the wood--no need for channels or anything. The wheels rotate on the axle--the axle does not rotate. Good luck!

  • remember to put your volume down on this one.

  • You are genius

  • how many skateboards did die for this :D

  • @kobebmx - Are you really that dumb that you don't understand the purpose of rollers??

  • I would need one about four feet wide

  • Just jump off

    I do

  • fantastic

i would disagree with mr klevespike in the point of being a waste of money

bec this machine is very expensive if you got it from the original manufacturer

and it helps you to get to elite performance on the road

and in the winter showers or snow it is the fun

  • @kobebmx

It will soon be close to 10 degrees outside with several feet of snow where I live. This is the only way that one could ride for the next five months. I don't think that being lazy is the reason we ride on rollers.

  • im sorry but why did you build this its a total waste of money time and effort. You bought a bike to cycle outside stop being so lazy. you made this you you chould cycle and watch the tv.

  • If you are willing to release blueprints that would be awsome. Atleast were did you get the rollers?
