AM Stereo transmitter kit testing part 1

Testing the newly contructed transmitter kit. This is playing on low power now. The hi power parts will be added soon. When assembling the kit, there are 8 bags of parts- each numbered. Start with bag 1 and do not open any other bags till you are finsihed the previous bag. Bag 8 has the hi power parts. Don't open that one till we are ready to show those construction details.

The kit arrived today and I had it built in around five hours because I tried to be as careful as I could about the components. As I heard from recordings made previously the sound quality just blew me away this little transmitter easily rivals and in some cases outperforms full power broadcast stations in fidelity. My receiver was a bit fussy about the 25 Hz pilot but I get solid stereo reception now that its adjusted correctly.

@fortyfiveplayer Only problem is I need a new frequency, I am causing interference to KKDZ from Seattle. I am outside their coverage contour but on good receivers I end up with this massive whistle. What type of programmable oscillator do you recommend for the transmitter? I have been looking at Digikey's website and they have several different types under the Cardinal name.

@bratina501 The part number is ECS-P85-A-ND and remember to multiply the frequency times 4 to get the value of the oscillator you want- for example, 1250Khz would be 1250 x 4= 5 Mhz, so you would want the oscillator programmed for 5 mhz. They do this at no additional charge.

There is a stereo version of Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World" with pretty good separation. The electric piano intro is mono, which might've fooled you.

It's amazing to see how much a little 9 volt battery can do. Kids today can't appreciate the advances that have been made in the last 50 years, both in the quality and duration of power in today's batteries. Further, they can't appreciate the advances in electronic devices. I would have given my left nut to own a 6 transistor radio in 1959 (and it would have cost me a fortune to buy one!). Look at the power they have in their hands today with an I-Touch, I-Phone and like handheld devices!!
