Well I did it again. I made another FPGA console. This time it's the Magnavox Odyssey^2! (Aka Videopac G7000 in Euroland).
Took about 1.5-2 weeks to get it this far. I dropped the SP0256 stuff in which I had previously done for the Intellivoice, so I get voice synthesis on here for free pretty much. Yes, it's fully simulated and is not using WAV files or samples.
The games are:
Killer Bees (buzzzuzzz!)
KC's Crazy Chase
Q-Bert
Q-bert is PAL so it's got a few glitches in its britches, regarding the top row of pixels being chopped off the score area, but it's fully playable otherwise, though it will be running 20% faster than it should since it's running at NTSC rates.
As usual, I used absolutely no pre-fabbed components that were not made by me. The 8048 is a 100% cycle accurate implementation that took around 3 days to write (even the cycles where ports are read and written is cycle accurate). 8244/8245 simulation is all original, too, with help from some random documents I found and the people over on the videopac.nl forum (thanx guys!)
I am going to have to buy a console though and hook it up to a logic analyzer I think if I am to get full 100% complete accuracy, however.
So far it plays pretty much everything I throw at it with varying levels of success. Most things run perfectly fine but there's a few glitches here and there relating to timing that I haven't quite ironed out yet. Type and Tell does run properly but it's very difficult to type anything in at this point in time so I didn't show it off yet.
Oh now I saw that this was made by my good old #classic mate, Kevtris! Hey Kevin, Amazin from Brazil here ! KUDOS FOR THIS O2 emu !
