Well his day finally arrived! He's been waiting for this day to come for so long, poor bloke, all our birthday's are at the start of the year and he's the only one this late in the year.
The day leading up to Joel's birthday, Alannah was prompting him.....
"Ok Joel, we're shopping... if Mum and Dad stay together... well then they've already got your birthday present. If we stay with Mum, that means Dad is going to sneak off and get your present... if we go with Dad, Mum's going to sneak off and get your present." Alannah said as it seemed all in one breath.
Challenging her as why she thought we wouldn't have already got his present, she said, "It's just something that I'm guessing!" all with a cheeky little smile on her face.
Later conversations later that afternoon, Alannah tries to convince us that she know's what Joel is going to get for his birthday. "I'm not telling, but I'll tell you tomorrow if I'm right or not!" was how she chose to stop talking about it. Which when you think about it is very convienient!
Anyway, Amanda and I were dead set on spoiling her fun and thought that Joel out of any of our kids would be able to take a practicle joke. We wrapped up a box of cup-a-soup and decided to give it to him as his first present. He's such a lovely little kid, he really got excited about the soup and took it all into his stride. Alannah, seemed a little deflated, she didn't predict that he'd get that!
After a present from his grandparents that he was very excited about, we did give him his real present. We'd decided that he was due a special treat as he is such a good kid, we'd give him a Nintendo DS Lite. He was over the moon!
He had a great day, having cake and a small party in the afternoon once the girls were home from school.
Happy birthday mate!
