Incredibly creepy scene. A really weird intimacy between the two women, considering Danvers hates the new Mrs. deWinter, who in turn, is terrified by Danvers. Judith Anderson deserved an Oscar for this electrifying performance. I can't remember who she lost to. Danvers is one of the most menacing, compelling villains in film history.
Love the dialogue when Judith Anderson's character Mrs. Danvers says "Would you like to see her underwear...especially crocheted by the nuns at St. Clair's."
The atmosphere in this film is fantastic thanks to both Hitchcock and also to the wonderful interior designer and lighting guys that did Laura.
Joan Fontain & Judith Anderson turn in great performances thanks to Hitchcock's guidance
No wonder it won the "Best Picture" Oscar in 1940 and kept the momentum going for Mr. David O. Selznick!
