In this video press release, the Assembly Democrats announce the election of new legislative leaders for the 214th Legislature.

The Democratic majority caucus elected Assemblywoman Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex) to the position of Assembly Speaker, the first African American woman to ever hold the post. The caucus also elected Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union) to the position of Majority Leader.

The new leaders will be formally sworn in during the chamber's January 12 reorganization.
