As an engineer, fund the heck out of science. We need science to produce new frontiers, and engineering will bring up the rear and find its uses. We need the frontiers to continuously be advanced to make anything out of it. We are no where near knowing everything.

So the flat galaxy thing is sort of the same idea as spinning out a pizza crust?

That's cos the general public is so uninformed about these things. And people usually think they couldn't possibly understand anything so they stray away from the subject. And always hear people say "why go to moon when we have problems down here too", but doubt they think of what you can find in almost every kitchen thanks to those "trips": foil. Or when someone goes to the hospital to take x-rays. These are every day things that can be traced back to science people don't even think about.

"There's a very fine line between crazy and genius..."

No, it's more of a broad area with a significant amount of overlap. Ideally you want to be in that overlap area. Of course because there's no actual line, it's easy to wander off into complete lunacy without noticing.

It's sad to see indoctrinated science people can't think outside the box.....These people only know about what they were told. They have no personal ideeas about what they are talking about.
