I read your intro. I find what is happening to be of a basic corporate nature:
Artists that have disbanded are technically, no longer "a going concern"; without touring and new releases they make less money, so the record company loses interst in promoting them.
Artists that changed record companies are probably enduring all sorts of buisness intereference, resulting in lesser access to earlier work.
The industry needs a clean slate to influence the public with their most recent acts.
