Your videos really helped our group start playing, but now we have reached level 2 and are wondering about leveling up. Specifically, do you add the Abil Mod+1/2 level to the defense (which already has 10+1/2 level)? Or do you just take the Abil Mod?

Esper I'm new to DMing and one of my players is a rogue and is new to DnD. And he asked a question last night while playing. The question was when rolling a d4 do you add all the sides up or not? Can you please answer this for me? Obviously I've never been a rogue.

question, say i was a dragonborn ranger. would i not be able to get a ranger encounter power because of the dragon breath feature, im a bit confused.

@wakablam You get both. Dragon breath is a racial feature. Ranger powers are separate from that.

Thank you so much man! As a kid born in '90 I mostly grew up with video games and was never introduced to this. Now I'm 20 and a few older friends of mine (25-27) dragged me into D&D. I've been confused out of my fucking mind. Thanks for the help.

Esper, I'd like to point out a discrepancy in your video and commentary. You stated that a 4th level Fighter trained in Athletics would have a +10 bonus to defence because of a +1 bonus due to half level, yet the write up said +2. That would make it a +11 bonus unless the armour penalty is calculable in the math. In which case, you failed to mention the number and have it written in the vid.
