Yes, they are both different species of plant. I thought that was common knowledge.

The potato is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial Solanum tuberosum of the Solanaceae family (also known as the nightshades).

The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is a dicotyledonous plant that belongs to the family Convolvulaceae.

Potatoes are grown from "eyes" of another potato. Sweet potatoes are grown from cuttings off another called "slips".

Personally, I prefer the sweet potato myself.

Because they're sweet potatoes and not regular potatoes.

Sweet potatoes grow from sprouts that come off of the potato called slips.

Never seen it done with black plastic before. Do you mound dirt over it too... to keep the plant roots covered?

I love sweet potatos, wish we could grow them here. I have grown one in a dish on the windowsill but that doesn't count.

How did you put the plastic down. Did you do it by hand or did you have a machine?

this isnt how sweet potatoes are typically grown but the purpose of black plastic is to help raise the soil temperature. Anything below 70F wont produce very well.
