  • thanks, this cleared up some stuff on joseki...but i'm wondering, as an inexperienced player, if the opening is a 5-5, why not approach with a 6-6? i'm figuring its because the comparative position compared with the joseki must be significantly weaker...also, you mention avoiding a fight....is it not considered correct to play an aggressive/fighting style of go?

  • @condor727me 6-6 is just far too high to make proper territory. Normally you want territory on the sides first because it's easiest. As for being aggresive, that is a style, but overly aggresive is just bad and over-play, in which your opponent will just push you around and make more points than yourself.

  • Oh, also at 7:50, white's sagari in the corner is aji keshi. It loses you the posibility to cut at 5-5 with atari and then extend so you can cut the center stone. Also sometimes you can even cut at 5-4 with atari and extend and it robs black of it's eyes, but you have to have a lot of stones around to be able to attack otherwise it is a bad move.

  • Also, connecting at 6:43 is kind of bad because white can just play nobi on the side on 5-3. If you sagari in the corner at 2-3, white makes empty triangle and there is nothing much to do afterwards.. If white atari from the bottom, it is better to ignore and atari at 5-3 yourself. If white captures, you capture and it is an exchange that favours black cause he has more of the corner. If white extends to the side, then connect at 4-6

  • The joseki at 5:54 is wrong. If you just pincer, white will jump and the corner black group is too weak to fight. You can strenghten it by pushing white on the fourth line but it is bad. You give a lot of points and the shape is still strange.. What I know is that insted if 1 point jump black plays kosumi at 5-6, white responds on the top group and then black covers the side stone with a keima-kata at 4-8.

  • nvm, you covered it later ;P

  • 08:05, playing the 2-2 point immediatly is not really good for white, because it removes all the aji from the 5-5 point =)
