He was nervous. With nervousness it is so difficult to sing the low tones because the blood circulation of the vocal chords is not on top. We hear the c# before the first low f# is under the pitch, the sound still perfect and than the g# before the next low f# is also to deep and the f# breaks.

Wonderful!. Amazing timbre and presence. He's also my favourite in the role of the Commendatore, in Don Giovanni.
Right up there with Alexander Kipnis.
