Although photography seems like an international hobby since it went digital, many starters and amateurs think they can walk around with one hanging over their necks and make believe they are professionals. Photographers who shoot for free are losers, people who ask for free photography services are also losers. Because losers like them cannot get anyone to pose for them; cannot get any one to take pictures for them. So they began communicating as strangers in emails to ask for something free.

We have a fairly straightforward system in place for people who want us to shoot for free or little compensation:

    1. Client must reimburse any and all transportation costs (includes mileage, bridge tolls, and parking)

    2. Client must provide sponsorship and/or advertising that matches the cost of my usual price and rate.

    3. Client must provide a minimum three fairly promising leads. Must include three names, three phone numbers, and three e-mail addresses.

That's all there is to it ;)

Prick. Pro photographers don't use Instagram.

Reminds me a lot of the recent debacle that occurred between journalist Nate Thayer and the Atlantic magazine.

Thank you for this reinforcement message! I just turned down an almost free job from an ad agency. Instead of saying no outright I gave them a realistic quote. Haven't heard from them since and I'm alright with that.

Working for free isn't networking, it's not working. Networking is talking to people, showing them what you do, if you do work for free you're showing them you do it for free, networking should be about demonstrating your worth, not demonstrating you're worthless.
