@gamma1033 I'm right there with you. I grew up in a small country town in Michigan and don't call me a yankee cuz we're just as country as people are in the south but I live in Texas now but I'm more in the city in Texas than I was back home. You can spend 2 hours a day in Austin traffic and that's on a good day. Where I'm from you can drive 10 miles all on dirt roads in around 10 to 20 minutes. Here you can drive 10 miles about an hour GRRR I miss where the corn grows

One of the best country songs, for me!! Great voice

City life ain't all its cracked up to be, specially if your whole life is spent in the country. It's so easy to just become part of the faceless crowd, you lose your identity. Going from the country to the city just changes a body, and it's hard to get back to it once you move.

ive lived my whole life in the country and wont ever leave

When I was young, I wanted to move away and make big money. Now , I would rather stay close to my family and roots. This song brings a tear to my eye. Money doesn't bring happiness.

Does Travis Tritt have a Bump it?

@dannyd1572 How sweet are you. I have a 16yr old daughter so I understand completely. Hope your son knows how lucky he is to have a Dad who worries about him so much.

I feel guilty for saying it, but......I like this version better than Waylon's.

My 19 year old son told me he's moving 10 hours away- 600 miles. He's never been out of a 50 mile radius of his home and he thinks LIttle Rock is where its at. Im his father scared to death for him. He has no idea what he is getting into. Pry the most tough thing I've ever had to do, give my only child to the world. I just hope they take care of him.....

IMO, the best song Travis has ever done. I don't like a lot of his music, but, I absolutely love this one and the way he does it is superb!
I spent much of the first 18 years of my life dreaming of where corn don't grow, and the next 40 years dreaming of getting back to where corn does grow. I'm not sure it is possible to ever appreciate what you have - without experiencing being without it.

Yes, there is very much truth in this song. Where Corn Don't Grow is a metaphor. The first verses of the song is talking about somebody who is young, thinks they know it all, and thinks they can make it in the outside world, despite the warnings from friends and family (a typical rebellious kid). The last verse talks about that young kid growing up, realizing they weren't as smart as they thought they were and learned the hard way to lifes lessons.
