Am I the only one who didn't feel sorry for Philip. I thought he was always a dumb ass. BTW Leslie played the gullible and desperate insecure really well and Davis, nuff said. They made two remakes of this...Two remakes just doesn't make it right.

It's pretty amusing that all Bette's diehard fans still insist that this is "good acting."

I hand it to the broad for guts, and obviously at the time, nobody had seen anything like this - they were used to mannered elegance and glamor. But this acting style has NOT aged well. Today it just comes off as over-the-top histrionics, yelling and screaming and throwing things.

its melodrama....most 30s and 40s movies were... but it was fun to watch....
