YEAH! I KNEW IT" Now UMG have decided to have a prob with this video. Yea, this one, where the Panasonic NV-870 Hifi-Stereo VHS VCR from 1985 is playing "Wild child" by E.G. Daily. This upload is especially for Dr. Cassette who recently showed us his Panasonic NV-HS 830 VCR, yeah, the one with the mirror-like front...
The NV-870 is the second Hifi-Stereo VHS (!!) recorder made by Panasonic ever, the first one was the NV-850 from 1984 which had lost the competiton for best hifi-audio against the Sony Beta-Hifi. With the NV-870 it was all 1:1.
Oh and btw: The scratches u hear are from the cabling, noticed that too late..Sorry!

@CaroVonAuersfeld well, after 9 months I found new heads for the 870 for a bargain £4.99 and also had the idler and pinch roller replaced along with quite a few bad caps replaced and dry joints on pcbs done. Recieve it back tomorrow!

@CaroVonAuersfeld I got my 870 arrive, needs new video head drum, pinch roller and idler which im having done. I also own a panasonic nv-fs200, 3 nv-hs1000s, also betamax - sony sl-c9, sl-hf100 and 3 sl-hf950s. all are in working order with good heads :)

Is your capstan running a little at uneven speed? sounds a little slurry to me. Nice vcr though, just waiting for one to arrive from ebay.

Man,I have only two old panasonic's ,wich both are mono ,and two new combo(VHS + DVD) one is panasonic,other is Philips,do the new ones have that quallity of sound or no?

This is really a super high quality VCR!!! Sounds very good! I like that it offers manual level control and a nice big VU meter!

@class37s: No no, the heads are fine, the noises come from the cabling. Never met an nv-870 whose heads were worn...*g*.
