A short I wrote, directed, edited and starred in April 2003. Inspired by a short story Douglas Adams wrote that was published posthumously in his book Salmon of Doubt. Almost all the events you see in this film happened to him in real life. Adams was keen on mentioning that somewhere there is a person who has been telling the exact same story as him for years, except without the punchline!
My Grandfather, Stan Eden, played the part of the old man.
Shot by Pete Bune of The Slack Pack
Note: I used an old version of Imovie to edit way back then so I know how much it sucks!!! It's also been dumped down to analog and back to digital so many times that it's lost quite a bit of its original quality, but I lost the original source files... bleh!

  • Very nicely done with sweet music and finely paced. Congrats to you and your old gandpa too. One criticism though, if you don't mind me saying - the pack of cookies wasn't established firmly enough in his hand at the start - so some people might think the younger man was actually stealing the older man's cookies right from the get-go. Kind of undermines Douglas Adams' point to the story!

  • Yes! I noticed that too! I had a close-up shot of the cookies and newspaper in my hand but it came out way too dark so I had to make do! Thank you very much for the feedback!

  • What a situation. D':

  • Thanks for taking an idea from my favourite writer and turning it into a very well made short.

  • Very nicely done. Glad that there are people out there prepared to take a wonderful idea and turn into a short purely for pleasure .Many Thanks

  • Cookies are fattening!!! Sucrose Whores!!! Love the short and the beard!!!

  • The biscuit Story!!! Infamous! Wonderful! My favourite chat up story to unread girls!!! I greatly admire that you've gone to the trouble of actually making this little short story. But I would have made it in a train station... an English train station. Other than that I loved it. good work
