If free-energy were suddenly available, those people's power would be yanked away from them.

So although I don't know if we really have that technology, it makes sense that governments would keep it under wraps to limit disruption of their power.

If the Americans have found a new energy why would they wait this long? Their economy has been suffering for a long time. They would have used it to their benefit already long time ago. Billions of dollars wasted for them because of their oil dependent industry/economy. I think they would have done the diversification already. Witness accounts not enough! SHOW THE EVIDENCE of your claims!

If the benign aliens are telepathic, which many sources say, it would be hard to film an interview between a human and alien communicating mentally. I've seen a video which an unidentified man claimed was smuggled out of Area 51 during a mass transfer of data. It looked real, but we will never know. Most information is declassified and legal to obtain, or it's still classified (aliens) and would be hard to smuggle out to the public.
