Opening Hymn of Compline at Mr.Saviour Monastery

The Monks of Mt. Saviour chant the opening hymn used for the hour of Compline (Night Prayer). Very nice accompaniment on the harp! The words:

Now in the fading light of day,
maker of all to you we pray,
that in your ever watchful love
you'll guide and keep us from above.

Help and protect us through the night,
danger and terror put to flight.
Never let evil have its way.
Preserve us for another day.

Father Almighty this be done,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord your Son,
whom in the Spirit we adore,
who reigns with you forever more.

Beautiful hymn

I was on a vocation retreat last month at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit (Cistertcian/Trappist) in Conyers Georgia.

They put us in the choir right between the brothers. I had always wanted to hear the liturgy sung and my first time hearing it was actually singing it. t was amazing and this video, to close my eyes and just listen, brings back deep emotion. I really didn't want to leave.

This is a very SPECIAL community of brothers...I've stayed there several times- and if I were not married, I would probably join. Its too bad that many more men wont dedicate their lives to the Lord through the monastic vocation.
